Surreal On The Go Presents: Surreal Hikes
"I go to nature to be soothed and healed and to have my senses put in order." -John Burroughs
Picture standing on top of a mountain, a beautiful view before you and a refreshing Surreal non-alcoholic beer in your hand. Starting to feel more relaxed already!
Hiking has many physical and mental health benefits. Adding hiking to your routine reduces your risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, and cholesterol. It’s also a great way to manage stress and enhance your mental wellness.
Bringing Surreal brews on a hike is a great way to enjoy craft beer AND stay alert and focused during a more technical section of your journey. In addition, NA beer has ingredients that are extremely beneficial to your post-hike recovery.
According to a study by the University of Munich, NA beer can reduce inflammation and boost the immune system due to the high polyphenol and antioxidant levels in the wheat, barley, and hops. NA beer also restores and maintains electrolytes in the body, keeping you hydrated.
In fact, many professional athletes have added NA beer to their post-recovery routines. The New York Times reported that the German Olympians are supplied with non-alcoholic beer regularly to speed their recovery times and reduce respiratory infections.
We asked some of our ambassadors for their favorite hiking trails. Here is what they said.
1. Pemi Trail - New Hampshire
Approx. 30 miles
Adam: “The Pemi loop in the white mountains gives you amazing mountain top views throughout the majority of the hike run and makes you feel so small in the world! Breathtaking!”
Pemi Loop isn’t a singular trail, rather a series of connected trails. This gives hikers multiple entry points including the Franconia Ridge Trail, which was named one of the world's best hikes by National Geographic.
The Pemi Loop trail is located near Lincoln, NH. The trail is perfect for hikers who love a challenge. It was given the title of second hardest day hike by Backpacker Magazine. It might be a difficult trek, but the views definitely don’t disappoint.
2. Mount Timpanogos - Utah
Approx. 13-15 miles
Amanda: “A really cool hike that I did for the first time in the fall of 2019 with my old dog. It was such a cool hike, and it was the last big one I got to do with him. I have some cool photos of him in the little hut at the top. I will keep those photos forever.”
Mount Timpanogos is known for its spectacular wildlife. There are two trails leading to the top of the mountain: the Aspen Grove and Timpooneke Trails. On both trails hikers can spot mountain goats and beautiful wildflowers.
Don’t forget to snap a few photos in front of the little hut at the top of the mountains for the perfect souvenir of your trip.
3. Angels Landing - Utah
Approx. 4 miles
Jess: “The views are absolutely breathtaking.”
Angels Landing’s stunning view of the Zion Canyon has made it one of the most popular hiking locations. Be sure to get an early start to miss the large crowds. Getting there early also means getting the best pictures of the canyon.
4. Duck Lake Pass Trail - California
Approx. 9.5 miles
Amanda: “Duck Lake is bigger than expected, and as you come over the pass, you can see out into the Sierra mountains for so far, it's absolutely gorgeous.”
The hike to Duck Lake is very scenic. You’ll encounter many other lakes on your way to Duck Lake. Barney Lake is a great place to take a short break. This lake is often surrounded by people fishing and picnicking. The scenery you’ll encounter on the journey is just as beautiful as the destination!
5. Point Reyes National Seashore - California
Approx. 5 miles
Bowen: "Start from Bear Valley Visitor Center, up the Mt Wittenberg trail and out the ridge to the Coast Trail. You get the big climb done right away and then emerge at the top of the ridge with incredible views out to Limantour Beach and Point Reyes as you make your way out to the coast, with plenty of perfect picnic spots along the way. The entire outing makes for a perfect day on the Northern California coast."
This trail is perfect if you’re looking for a varied hike with a lot of different scenery. On this trail you will come across mixed Douglas fir forests, meadows and coastal views. There are many trails to choose from so there is always a new adventure to go on.
